Practical example 1:

Maria, who lives in Madrid, went to spend a few days in London and on her return she has a few pounds left over. If she exchanges them for euros at an exchange bureau or bank, she will lose money.
On the other hand, Cristina, who also lives in Madrid, is planning a trip to Edinburgh and will need to exchange euros for pounds to use them there.

Practical example 2:
